Potential Quality Issue with Marlow Aeris Climbing Rope

We have received an email from Paul Dyer, Technical Manager at Marlow Climbing Ropes regarding a potential quality issue with the splices in some batches of Marlow Aeris Climbing Rope. The content is reproduced below.

[Marlow Announcement in Full]
It has come to our attention that there may be a potential quality issue with the splices in some batches of Marlow Aeris Climbing Rope.

It has been discovered that some ropes may have been inadequately spliced, thereby resulting in a potential safety issue. The part numbers and batches that are potentially affected are detailed below and in the first instance we recommend that any ropes that you may still have in stock be inspected immediately.

We also recommend that any Aeris ropes sold to your customers that are still in active use also be returned for batch number confirmation and inspection or replacement where necessary

Ropes that pass our factory inspection will be returned and any rope found to have a suspect splice will be replaced free of charge immediately.

We stress that this is a precautionary exercise, that not all batched of Aeris rope are affected and that this quality issue only potentially affects the batches detailed. No other spliced Marlow products including Gecko are affected. This issue only affects the splice, the rope itself is unaffected and can continue to be used.

We apologise for this issue but confirm that remedial action has been taken to ensure no such problem occurs again.

The parts and batches affect are:

The part number and batch number can be read from the product label fixed at the neck of the splice:

[Announcement Ends]

Please contact Buxtons immediately if you have bought an effected rope from us.

Thank you

Arb Kit Review: Lifesaving Celox Haemostatic Granules in Focus

Celox have sent out a press release this week highlighting its part in saving the life of Tom Connelly who made international headlines last week after surviving cutting his own Jugular vein with his chainsaw whilst climbing.

Tom slipped whilst working up a horse chestnut tree near Wisbech, Cambridgeshire when he slipped and fell onto his chainsaw. He cut his jugular vein and its reported he had to hold his own head on whilst his colleagues lowered him to the ground.

The emergency medical charity Magpas was called and emergency first aid given by his colleagues. The Magpas doctors used Celox gauze to stem the flow of blood and this reportedly saved his life.

Celox Saves Lives

The Celox press release says:

“This story is testament to Tom's colleagues and Magpas, but without doubt it was finally Celox which saved Tom's life.”

Celox is undoubtedly an amazing life saving British product.

Severe bleeding can cause shock and death in less than 10 minutes. Moderate, prolonged bleeding can do the same, but standard first aid kits contain nothing more than sticking plasters or a blood stopper. Plasters really don't have a lot of use in an emergency or chainsaw injury.

Celox is an haemostatic granule which when poured into a bleeding wound, links to the red blood cells promoting rapid coagulation. In controlled tests, it was found to stop most bleeding within 30 seconds and to stop severe arterial bleeding in minutes.

In battlefield trials Celox achieved a 100% survival rate. It works in hypothermic conditions and also clots blood containing heparin or warfarin. Celox also generates no heat and wont burn the patient or first aider. It is safe to use in all parts of the body including head and neck wounds.

Celox is an first call addition to your arborist kit bag or first aid box. Its tried, tested and proven to be without doubt a life saver.

Arborist Severs Nearly Decapitates Himself with Own Chainsaw

A tree surgeon from Cambridgeshire has survived after cutting through at least a third of his neck with his chainsaw according to media reports from around the globe.

Tom Connelly, a tree surgeon from Cambridgeshire, was working up a horse chestnut near Wisbech, when he slipped and fell onto his chainsaw and cut his neck. He severed his jugular vein and was only 1mm from his carotid artery.

Tom was lucky to be alive, he said "From touching your jugular vein they reckon you have four minutes before bleeding out."

Mr Connelly's colleagues managed to bring him down from the tree and ambulance staff and medics from Magpas air ambulance arrived within minutes.

Dr James French, a Magpas medic said, "When we got there, there was a young man with a very large wound in the side of his neck with, literally, blood spurting out of it.

"We sedated him and made him comfortable and then packed the wound with this gauze that's used in Afghanistan to treat combat wounds."

The specialist dressing in question is the Celox dressing.

Mr Conelly is expected to regain 90% of arm function and is back at work on light duties.

New Website Layout Launched

Buxtons are pleased to announce that they have launched a new web design layout to make finding products easier, simpler and faster.

Buxtons now has over two and a half thousand products on its website giving you the best possible choice and we are adding new products all the time. But this huge product range had made it difficult for some customers to find what they need. So we have divided the Buxtons business into eight categories and fitted everything into one of those.

If you are one of our long standing professional arb customers used to buying arb kit and safety clothing, please note that these sections have been separated with the arb category in the top right hand side and chainsaw clothing being in the PPE and first aid category. For our new special offers section, look into the arb section.

Why Make the Change?

When we started Buxtons.net some years ago our online business was aimed solely arb professionals, so we only listed arborist and chainsaw safety equipment and it was all listed ex vat.

As we have added new products over the years we tried to separate the gardening stuff from the arb and forestry stuff, but this year its all started to look really scrappy and cluttered.

As always, our doors are open to feedback, good and bad. Email it in, phone it in, just let us know what you think. We want the website to be easy to use and we need you all to tell us how to make it even better.

Thanks
Phil
